How to Make Hard and Soft Cover Books

In our explanation of the Books on Demand Opportunities for Printers, we showed you how one of your employees can generate over $337,000 of yearly revenue.

You are probably asking yourself what new concept in bookbinding allows this to happen? The heart of the concept is the tabletop ‘rotary binder’. These machines were first developed in 1978, but have only been offered by ExactBind West in the U.S. since 2002. Each machine can make soft cover books, hard cover books, reports, tear-off notepads, and tape binds. You can now announce to the market that you have your own ‘mini-bindery’!

The rotary binders are easy to use and require no clean-up or intricate maintenance. The machine flips the book content upside down so that the adhesive can be applied from above; the pages are fanned as the adhesive is applied so that the pages are securely held in place.

The machines have been delivered to over 82 countries around the world for over 25 years. Our acrylic adhesive is non-toxic. It returns to room temperature within 8-12 seconds. You can open and distribute the books immediately.

Your Customers Have Choices

The end result is retail quality hard or soft cover books. The book longevity is assured because the adhesive is formulated to remain pliable for 75 years.

Your customers may choose the cover material they want. Why be limited to materials? With our hard-case maker, design covers with custom photographic quality images on the cover, text to personalize the cover, real leather, leatherette, cloth/linen, velvet or foil. Your customers can have fun and experiment a little! Covers can be printed with ink-jet or laser printers.

Letter size is o.k., but what if they’re creative? Your customer might want their books to be different from all others. Why not make them unique and personal? Our system allows you to make covers as small as 3” x 3” or as large as 9” x 12”.

Perfect bound or free-floating spines-- With our binders, you have the choice of a “real perfect binding” or use one of our free-floating, lay-flat strips.

We can bind most of the coated stocks-- A binding system is useless if it can’t bind and hold coated stocks. What good is a hardcover that you can’t bind your high quality paper into?

The finishing touches--For added panache, attach headbands or a ribbon bookmarker for just pennies each. Or use our “Hot Foil Stamper” to create a permanent embossed image that won’t scratch off easily. Each book can even be personalized.
